Booknotes - Measure What Matters, John Doerr

Objectives and Key Results - the most important things to know

Objective: What is to be achieved. Action oriented and concrete.

Key Results: How to get to the objective. Key Results should be specific and time-bound. They should be MEASURABLE and verifiable.

Having OKRs helps an organisation have 4 “Superpowers”; focus, alignment, track and stretch.

#1, Focus — OKRs help define what’s important and matters and what doesn’t matter.

#2, Alignment — Everyone’s goals are openly shared, there is great transparency. Individuals can also link their objectives to a company’s overall plan.

#3, Track — Continuous monitoring helps identify when something is offtrack and action is required to get it back on track.

#4, Stretch — OKRs motivate people to do more than they thought was possible.
